Dr. Basilio Goncalves
University Assistant Post Doc
Department for Biomechanics, Kinesiology and Computer Science in Sport of the University of Vienna
Biography
Dr. Basilio Goncalves has a background in musculoskeletal biomechanics and his work focuses on studying the effects of movement disorders and neuromuscular fatigue on joint loading and muscle function. His work has focused on arthritic and neurological conditions (e.g. femoroacetabular impingement, osteoarthritis, and cerebral palsy) and sporting populations (runners and team sport athletes). Dr. Goncalves has special interest the use of subject specific computer simulations together with experimental data (medical imaging, electromyography, and motion capture) to understand and help improve treatments for clinical conditions related to gait and locomotion. He is also interested in software development and the use of wearable technology to diagnose and treat musculoskeletal disorders.
Dr. Goncalves received his Masters in 2017 from the University of Jyvaskyla (Finland) and his PhD in 2021 from Griffith University (Australia). He has been involved in several collaborations with researchers from universities across the world including Austria, Australia, Finland, France, Hungary, Portugal, and Sweden.
